From Todd Johnson (23 February 2007):

Some years ago I corresponded with you by e-mail concerning a sequenced set of photographs of DD-728 refueling, sometime in 1961 or 1962. My uncle, CDR Robert J. Agness, commanded her at the time.

The photos, which have been in my family for many years, were sent to my uncle by the captain of the refuel ship (a carrier, I believe) with a letter of congratulations for holding a steady course alongside during the “airborne” refueling.

I have no idea what happened to the letter, although it may be in the possession of Uncle Bob’s widow. My uncle passed away in 2000 after spending more thean 35 years in retirement in White Stone, VA, on a small farm he owned at the mouth of the Rappahannock River.
